Walnuts are a natural superfood

Food that is rich in nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, unsaturated fatty acids, and fibre should be a regular fixture on the daily menu. This also includes nuts, above all walnuts. They are the only nuts that are rich in alpha-linolenic acid, an omega-3 fatty acid that plays a crucial role in the prevention of cardiovascular disease.

They also contain other vital unsaturated fatty acids, valuable vegetable protein, magnesium, B vitamins – folate in particular – and antioxidants such as vitamin E, selenium and secondary plant substances. The latter protects the body’s cells against aggressive oxygen radicals and therefore beneficially influence health and the ageing process.

Just 30 grams of walnuts per day provide a substantial portion of the respective recommended daily doses. This includes fibre as well, also responsible for ensuring that walnuts keep you full for a long time and are thus anything but a fattener.
