DGE Convention 2014 with Dr. Ros
When it comes to the heart healthy Mediterranean diet, Dr. Emilio Ros is the expert. As primary investigator of the PREDIMED study, he spoke on behalf of the California Walnut Commission at the annual conference of the German Society for Nutrition about the health benefits of a Mediterranean diet supplemented with walnuts.
The German Society for Nutrition (DGE) is Germany´s authority when it comes to nutrition and nutrition guidelines for consumers in Germany. Each year, the DGE meets with their members to discuss latest findings in nutrition research. At the annual DGE conference in Paderborn this spring, the California Walnut Commission arranged a lecture for the renowned Spanish researcher and author Emilio Ros, MD, PhD.
Dr. Ros is a primary investigator of the PREDIMED study, one of the world´s largest and longest dietary intervention studies of cardiovascular disease. He spoke in Paderborn on Mediterranean diet supplemented with nuts which is associated with delayed progression of carotid atherosclerosis.
Dr. Ros´ lecture was very well-attended and received positive feedback by German scientists and DGE members. In the course of the conference, the California Walnut Commission also offered attending members opportunities to discuss latest findings on walnuts in Mediterranean diet with Dr. Ros at social events such as an informal breakfast at the booth of the California Walnut Commission or the evening reception of the DGE.
